Gothic 1 Remake Lockpicking Mechanics

In Gothic 1 Remake, chest and door locks consist of 4 to 7 plates. Each plate slides across 7 slots, and the lock opens when every pin aligns with slot 4.

01

Read the starting position

For each plate, select the slot where its pin currently sits. Slot 4 is the center target.

02

Describe linked movement

Some plates move together. A same-direction link follows the plate you turn; an opposite link moves the other way.

03

Use the shortest safe path

The solver avoids pushing any pin beyond the rail and returns a shortest valid sequence to the center.

How Linked Lockpick Plates Work

In Gothic 1 Remake lockpicking, keep cells on no link when a turn moves only its own plate. Set same or opposite direction only when that turn also moves another plate.

Gothic 1 Remake Lockpicking FAQ

How do I solve lockpicking puzzles in Gothic 1 Remake?

Select your lock's plate count (4 to 7 plates), mark the current pin slot (1 to 7) for each plate, and set any linked movements in the matrix. Click 'Find solution' to get an exact, step-by-step path to align all pins to the center slot 4.

Does my in-game lockpicking skill level affect how I use the solver?

You enter lock states the same way regardless of skill. However, higher in-game lockpicking skill levels reduce linked plate dependencies and widen rail margins. If the solver displays 'Requires skill upgrade', advancing your lockpicking skill in-game will allow you to unlock it safely without hitting rail boundaries.

What do 'Same Direction' and 'Opposite Direction' mean in plate links?

'Same Direction' means the linked plate moves left or right together with the plate you turn. 'Opposite Direction' means when you turn a plate left, the linked plate moves right (and vice versa). Leave cells on 'No link' if turning a plate only moves itself.

Do I need to know the specific chest or door name?

No. The solver works purely from the visual lock state (plate positions and link movements) you see on screen. It instantly solves any chest, door, or gate lock across Old Camp, New Camp, Swamp Camp, or any area in Gothic 1 Remake.

Can I copy or share lockpick solutions with other players?

Yes! Once a solution is calculated, you can follow the step-by-step animation or copy the move sequence to your clipboard to share on Discord, Reddit, Steam Community guides, or walkthrough forums.

Why does a lock configuration show as unsolvable?

A lock is flagged unsolvable when any move would push a plate past slot 1 or slot 7 (hitting the boundary rail). In Gothic 1 Remake, these locks are designed to require a higher lockpicking skill level before they can be solved.

Is my input stored or linked to my personal data?

No personal data, user accounts, or IP addresses are stored. Anonymous lock states are recorded solely to improve solver performance and precompute popular lock configurations.
